Welcome to Dynamo Profiler

Dynamo Profiler is the first simple on-line test that helps you to identify areas of developmental dyscalculia and maths developmental delays, and informs you of specific areas of difficulty.

The strength of Dynamo Profiler assessment lies in the way it captures the child’s individual variation in their number sense development. This enables children at high risk of dyscalculia to be identified.

It captures a snapshot view of the child's unique number sense development and serves as a basis for tailoring an individual and purposeful intervention. The dyscalculia Profiler has drawn learning from neuroscience research, particularly the areas of the brain that are involved in processing numbers.

All the test questions are age adaptive.

Age: The assessment is measured at ages 6, 7, 8 and 9. If the learner's age is above 9 then the baseline report will be for age 9.

Time: It takes on average 20-40 minutes, depending on the child’s individual needs.

Results: The test generates results instantly. The scores are presented within the broad areas of the NumberSenseMMR™ framework and easy to follow.

These are:

  • Speed of Processing

  • Number Meaning:

    Numbers as symbols

    Subitising and counting

  • Number Magnitude

    Number comparison

    Ordering numbers

    Number sequencing

  • Number Relationships:

    Number sequence

    Number bonds and facts

    Mental strategies

    Problem solving

    Time measurement

MMR Framework

Reports Presentation: At the core of the reporting is the child’s unique individual number sense signature that is presented in an easy-to-view graphical format.

The test results are presented in three simplified formats to assist with tailoring class-based or an individual and purposeful intervention.

  • NumberSense Profile Report: The bar chart provides a summarised profile of the underlying unique individual number sense variation across three areas within the Number Sense MMR™ framework. These are:
    - The Number Meaning and Number Magnitude – these provide the focus areas for dyscalculia symptoms, and
    - The Number Relationships – this provides focus areas for developmental delay in maths.

  • Performance Profile Report: This provides a detailed view of strengths and weakness, supported by:
    - a description on the area assessed.
    - a performance commentary on the score achieved for each area of assessment.
    - colour coded score achieved, and
    - signpost to the intervention and remediation modules in Dynamo Maths and any other resources that will suitably close the gap.

The Profiler shows the areas of numbers and maths learning disorders so that you can plan purposeful interventions.

The Profiler requests a history of the learner's cognitive and biological disorders so that you can analyse the outcomes for each number strand against their learning difficulties and plan purposeful interventions.

Additional Support:

Our research shows that dyscalculia is sometimes associated with other co-occurring conditions and it is very useful to have a global, functioning view in order to assist in the decision-making process and provision of best supporting the intervention and remediation approaches.

The program enables the captures of the global functioning information through:

  • an observation sheet and guidance to capture notes during the assessment to be used by the assessors.
  • individual questionnaire to capture the child’s global functioning.
  • accessibility settings to change background colour, and
  • printable reports.

What next?

The Performance Profile report signposts to Dynamo Math remediation modules that have been purposefully designed to support learners with dyscalculia and maths developmental delays.

Why choose Dynamo Profiler for dyscalculia assessment?

  • the dyscalculia Profiler has drawn learning from neuroscience research, particularly the areas of the brain that are involved in processing numbers.
  • it has been developed following an extensive research exercise in conjunction with learning from the pioneering work with Dynamo Maths, the online dyscalculia intervention and remediation programme that is successfully used by schools and parents at home.
  • supported by academic research.
  • the results are available immediately.
  • provides a high accuracy and immediate results in clear and understandable format.
  • low cost – much cheaper than other forms of assessment.
  • safe, secure and convenient – can be carried out in the classroom or at home.

Intervention and Remediation Strategies:

The intervention can be provided on an individual basis (one-one) or in small groups in classroom setting. The Dynamo Profiler report has some suggested approaches to effective intervention and remediation.
